Epidermal Transcriptional Responses To Common Dwellers
Our skin is populated by many bacteria, among which arguably the most common are Staphylococcus epidermidis, Propionibacterium acnes and Staphylococcus aureus. To begin exploring the responses of the epidermis to these 3 organisms, we used Affymetrix microarrays for transcriptional profiling. Specifically, cultures of S. epidermidis, P. acnes and S. aureus were placed onto skin explants ex-vivo, and the transcriptional changes determined after a 24h period. We will present comprehensively the results identifying the common and the specific gene sets turned on or off by these organisms.
